Where are we now?
Punctuation and Commas galore! (4/7/2016)
HOMEWORK
If you have come here looking for your homework assignment for today, I regret to inform you that you will not find it. Rarely will homework assignments be posted to this webpage. In junior high you are to be self-sufficient and write assignments in an assignment notebook. If an assignment is missed in the notebook, a peer should be contacted to retrieve the assignment.
Vocabulary
Students will be assigned one unit of 20 words every two weeks. They will be expected to complete specific vocabulary assignments throughout those two weeks to practice using and identifying the words in context, and the work will culminate in an examination at the end of the two weeks.
Vocab Schedule:
Monday - Unit assigned.
Tuesday - "Completing the Sentence" due
Thursday - "Synonyms and Antonyms" due
Friday - Practice spelling test. (See which words you are already comfortable with and which need more attention.)
Tuesday - "Choosing the Right Word" due
Thursday - "Vocabulary in Context" due
Friday - Spelling test (This one counts!)

Writing
Students will write in this class EVERY day. The class will construct journal entries which consist of writing a 1-2 paragraph response to a predetermined prompt. The Daily Writing Prompt (DWP) should be completed in class, but if it is not, must be finished at home. Being absent is not an excuse. Students must get the prompt from a classmate or the teacher before writings are collected. These writings are collected periodically (with advance notice) and are worth 5-10 points a piece.
In addition to the DWP, students are frequently asked to write 1/2 - full page pieces of creative and reflective writing about literary elements and stories.
